So, The Sky Isn’t Falling After All?

Well, the dreaded Rapture has passed and it seems we’ve all survived with our limbs still attached (or have we?..dun dun dunnn!). But what would’ve happened if worldwide doom, really came to pass? Would fire fall from the sky–well shit let’s hope not, but maybe there’s one thing we can all look forward to. That’s right, I’m talking about Zombie Babes.

The Artist: Chloe Roques

French web and graphics designer, Chloe Roques, has got me flipping the pages of the nearest zombie manual for her pinup style, “Zombabes.” Googoorama is the site which showcases these busty maneaters from original vector art, to sketches, and merchandise.

So, what does a Zombabe do in a post-apocalyptic world? She gets her fill of BRraAAIIInNNssSS of course…..eh, too much? Oh alright……ANYWHO my fav–zombabe, has got to be the chick munching on eyeballs, probably watching a marathon of Resident Evil.

DeviantART’s Goldmine of Inspiration

I just love getting lost on DeviantART. I usually go there to check my own profile and for a quick browse, but that quick browse quickly turns into hours of “oooing” and “ahhing” in front of my screen.  So many talented artists call it a home for their best work, and have gone onto much bigger opportunities because of its supportive community.

Type “Disney” into their search bar and you’re bound to find thousands of creative works from people all around the world. One particular gem I came across is this gorgeous series of Disney princesses digitally painted with an incredible sense of realism.

The Artist: Claire Lena

Claire, also known as meirou on DA, is a young artist currently living in the United Kingdom. She makes beautiful fantasy paintings using Photoshop as her medium.

Claire paints with a sense of “semi-realism” to get the realistic effect that she wants. Her paintings have such a wonderfully dreamy quality about them that they really take the viewer to the place she illustrates. Like many artists, she uses photo references to create her characters and was often inspired by the awesome work of photographers to paint from.

The Disney Princess series includes portraits of Cinderella, Snow White, Belle, and Ariel.My favorite by far is, Ariel with her little flounder nearby, what’s yours?

SexiDesign Loves Body Art

I’m always amazed at how artists are capable of using the human form as their canvas. Whether the artist is creating beautiful zodiac inspired art or insane optical illusions, they never fail to awe and inspire.  Emma Hack is another body artist whose attention to detail leaves her audience wondering about what they’re truly looking at.

The Artist: Emma Hack

For Emma Hack, the human form was always a canvas for inspiration. As a makeup and children’s face paint artist, she developed her craft, exploring the potential of what new mediums had to offer. She’s traveled all over the world showcasing her beautiful collections as both installations and photography.

Looking at her work you can tell that Emma has an immense attention to detail in order to pull of her optical illusions seamlessly. She, like many illusionists, take pictures from afar during a piece’s development process in order to track her progress. This also helps to ensure the design lines up correctly as she sees fit.

Twitter Playing Card

Pinup Catchup For Months Aug/Sept

After a momentary hiatus I’m happy to be back with new Twitter pinups for SexiDesign. This particular pinup was inspired by traditional and vibrant mayan playing cards. Though the original design was to have the same image twice, after the initial sketches I saw a little story appear before my eyes.

So this pinup is inspired by those little moments when one breaks their intense exterior with for those moments of gentleness I’ve grown to love.

As you may already know from delving into my mischievous list of 100 sexy facts about me,  I absolutely adore vintage pinup attire.  So while perusing the pages of my favorite vixenish guru, V.V., I fell in love with the beautiful pinup work from her dear friend, Derek Santiago. The Artist: Derek Santiago

Aptly named “Santiago” (don’t you just love one named artists), Santiago’s work is a provocative blend of vintage pinups, urban art influences, and every other deliciously exotic mash-up you could add to the sultry melting pot. Like many artists, his work has been an expression of himself since even early childhood.

Color Color Color!

I am probably most taken aback by the illustrious use of color to convey powerful passion behind his pieces. It’s as though he has taken the sensuous housewife circa 1952 and propelled her into a whirlwind of futuristic glamor.

John Lennon

John Lennon is regarded as one of the most celebrated and loved musicians of this century.  His music and work has touched millions all over the world, with words of peace, love, and hope.  Though we know him best for his musical genius allow SexiDesign to introduce you to John Lennon, the artist…

Lennon, The Artist

John Lennon always had a strong interest in art. Early evidence of this is apparent though his 4 year study at the Liverpool Institute of Art. Even as a child he spoofed the Liverpool Echo newspaper with animated drawings mature for his age.

In pursuit of a solo career as a musician and artist, John left the Beatles to the dismay of loyal fans. After the marriage to his wife, Yoko Ono, John celebrated the details of the ceremony through drawings dedicated to Yoko. These drawings, exhibited at the London Art Gallery soon after, were confiscated when officials deemed them too obscene. Although the sixties was a time for sexual revolution many were not ready for the nude depictions of his wife on display.

Lennon’s Style

John drew whimsical drawings that were often commentary on his own life with Yoko and their children. They were purely black and white ink drawings which appear “squiggly-like” upon paper. His almost cartoonish style of line art featuring whimsical (often nude) characters is displayed in two published books where the artist accompanies the work with satirical stories and poetry.

Lennon often signed his art with a signature and chop mark, an individually patented stamp most commonly used by oriental artists. His stamp read, “Like A Cloud, Beautiful Sound.”

After his death, wife Yoko Ono had many of his drawings remastered as prints with color she applied herself.

Pinup Catch Up

This particular pinup is a means for catching up on the last TOTMs for the months of May, June, and July. It’s inspired by the subtleties in the female form that have become sexier throughout time. For instance, a flash of the wrist or a glimpse of a woman’s thigh were once considered extremely provocative. Painted in Photoshop CS3, it took about 10-15 hours to complete.

Beauty Distortion

In a world with Hollywood cookie cutter types, a nip and tuck here and there is as common as a handshake. But with the risks of any major surgery, results may vary–to say the least. Emerge from the doctor’s as statuesque as Barbie, or make your habitat amongst the wildebeest. Either way, enter this terrifying realm of beauty at your own risk.

The Artist: Burcu Büyükünal

Burcu Büyükünal is a turkish jewelry designer who graduated from the Istanbul Technical University in 2003. Driven by the conventions of history and it’s affect on societies perception of beauty she created “Terrifying Beauty.”

Terrifying Beauty is a collection of four pieces of jewelry which distort the face in an unlikely way. It reflects Burcu’s feelings towards trends in plastic surgery today while playing with the traditional function of jewelry. Each piece is crafted in brass metal and designed to pull the face in a way similar to botched procedures.

In an effort to bring about questions on the convention of beauty, Burcu hopes that her work will shock and inspire some. What do you think about her work’s purpose?

Face Jewelry vs. Plastic Surgery

Here are side by side comparisons of Burcu’s face jewelry and some unfortunate cosmetic results.  Notice how the jewelry emphasizes aspects of the face that are modified by popular cosmetic procedures. The jewelry may look painful, but not as painful as these permanent reminders.

Not Exactly Wearable Jewelry…

Now I don’t expect (nor recommend) you run out and surprise your hunny with a piece from this collection, but it definitely stirs some questions. Has plastic surgery warped society’s perspective on beauty?

He started Snuggie Sutra with his good friend, Megan Morrison, and they were both surprised when this sexy, quirky, phenomenon lead to a book deal.

Megan Morrison is the graphic genius behind The Snuggie Sutra. She’s a graphic designer in Washington DC who makes a living doing what she truly loves. Perhaps it’s no coincidence that she once tacked tiny sex cartoons around her bedroom that the Snuggie Sutra would spawned thereafter.

Are you curious about how to spice things up in the bedroom department? Well, about.com features a section of their site dedicated to exploring intimate positions with wooden figurines. Yes, wooden figurines are used to depict a couple officially “gettin’ it on.” But what’s probably more intriguing are some of the benefits of using these figures.

Who would’ve thought that wooden figurines often used by artists for posing studies would make great for sex ed? Here are some additional benefits:

Loosen You Up

What a great way to keep things light and fun then to add a little comedy to sex. I find it particularly funny how the photographer uses artsy angles to get the best shot. Or how they cleverly “set the mood” by positing the figurines on the bed. Giving your readers a little laugh with their education is a sure fire way to make them comfortable.

No Nudity

Although it’s sex, not everyone wants to see the act in high definition. These lovely figurines allow you to see the variety of positions without the distraction of blatant nudity. They even allow for ambiguity by not differentiating between male/female figurines–allowing those of alternative sexual preferences to satisfy their curiosity too!

I also think because of the lack of nudity that these would be great to introduce teens to sex. But enough of all this educational stuff! Let’s see the figurines at work! =D
